Oregon football 2025 recruiting surge garners reaction from industry experts (2024)

Dan Lanning and the Ducks are red-hot on the recruiting trail.

There is not a college football team in the country with more momentum in recruiting than Oregon. A red-hot stretch has the Ducks soaring into the top five of the national team recruiting rankings for the 2025 class — and it appears Dan Lanning and Co. are just getting started. There is plenty of buzz in Eugene after Oregon added five new pledges just this past week.

The Ducks began the week just inside the top 30 nationally and in the middle of a crowded Big Ten race. But, therecent wave of new commitments, which includes four Top247 recruits, has Oregon establishing itself as a force in the expanded conference.

Oregon is now up to 14 total commitments in the 2025 class with all but two of those being Top247 recruits. That will provide a massive boost to the Ducks' blue-chip ratio, which is already among the best nationally for the 2024 season.

It wassimply a matter of time before Oregon heated up on the recruiting trail. Although the Ducks were not high on the list of the national team rankings at the start of the week, their haul ofpledges was still among the best in the country when comparing the average industry-generated 247Sports Composite rating per commit. Now, Oregon ranks third nationally — behind only LSU and Ohio State — in that category with its 14 commitments holding an average rating of 93.69.

Oregon Ducks have 12 4- or 5-star commitments

The other three West Coast schools in the Big Ten have 10 — combined

I said on @Cover3Podcast that Oregon will build the No. 2 roster in the Big Ten and it’s happening faster than I thought.

As Oregon officially joins the Big Ten, it is wasting no time establishing itself as a top program in the expanded conference despite not yet playing a game. The Ducks' success in recruiting should pay off in the near future as head coach Dan Lanning continues to build the roster. Oregon is well ahead of the other West Coast newcomers to the Big Ten — UCLA, USC and Washington — in these efforts.

Oregon has never recruited better than they have under Dan Lanning. The depth is incredible.

With 22 combined wins in his first two seasons as head coach at Oregon, Dan Lanning has the Ducks on the cusp of contending for their first national title. That momentum is translating toa level of recruiting that was not reached under previous coaching staffs in Eugene. Oregon finished with thethird-best high school recruiting class nationally in the 2024 cycle. With its latest surge, the Ducks are in position to secure back-to-back top-five classes for the first time in the modern era.

With the verbal commitment from Dorian Brew and four others this week, Oregon has gone from No. 29 earlier this week in recruiting team rankings to now into the Top 5. https://t.co/4fg5Z4lli2

The Duck emoji littered Dan Lanning's social media this week as Oregon landed a string of new commitments in the 2025 class. The run began Tuesday as Owings Mills (Md.) McDonogh School Top247 cornerbackBrandon Finney chose the Ducks over Ohio State, Penn State, South Carolina and others. He led a flock of new commitments that kickstarted the surge for Oregon.

The next commitment for Oregon came from Folsom (Calif.) high three-star defensive lineman Josiah Sharma, who picked the Ducks over Alabama, Texas and Washington. The 6-foot-5, 295-pound prospect is one of the few highly-regarded defensive lineman on the West Coast in this 2025 class, making it an even greater addition for Oregon. There is a lot of upside for Sharma as he continues to develop into a versatile defensive lineman.

Oregon also added future size and power to its backfield this week as Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei Top247 running back Jordon Davison chose the Ducks over Alabama, Michigan and Ohio State. The 6-foot, 216-pound recruit rushed for more than 660 yards and 10 touchdowns this past season as a junior for the Monarchs. Davison ranks as the No. 12 running back in the entire 2025 recruiting class.

One of the top ranked tight ends in the 2025 recruiting class also committed to Oregon. Derby (Kan.) Top247 prospect Da'Saahn Brame chose the Ducks over LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee and others. A Kansas State legacy, both his parents were athletes for the Wildcats in the late 1990s. Brame is one of the highest-rated tight end prospects to ever commit to Oregon and gives the Ducks a serious weapon on offense in the future.

Oregon saved arguably the biggest commitment of the week for last when Conroe (Texas) Top247 cornerback Dorian Brew made a stunning decision to pick the Ducks over Ohio State — which already has a loaded secondary in the 2025 class. Brew is an industry-generated 247Sports Composite five-star recruit and is considered to be one of the best defensive backs in the cycle. Both his parents were highly-successful track athletes in college. His dad, Derrick Brew, is a 2004 Olympic gold medalist in the 4x400 meter relay and bronze medalist in the 400 meters.
