Welcome to the Arms Warrior Raid guide for World of Warcraft patch 11.0! In this guide there is advice on how you can improve your damage by having a good rotation, a good talent build and a good gear setup. There is also a Raids section that focuses on each Raid encounter, with advice on how to counter them as an Arms Warrior.
Arms Warriors primary resource is called Rage, and you generate Rage primarily through Auto Attacks. Most abilities cost Rage, and since you have a limited income of rage, you run the risk of "rage-starving" and being unable to use any ability at all unless you plan your abilities well.
Mortal Strike serves your main damage ability on single-target, and it is buffed by Overpower through Martial Prowess, and also buffed by Execute through Executioner's Precision.
Warriors have long been known for Execute damage, with the last part of a fight often referred to as the "Execute Phase", named after Warriors Execute ability. This is a kind of niche damage that is often valued highly in raiding, and Arms Warriors have some of the strongest execute damage in the game.

Strong
- Arms Warriors have excellent Single Target as well as 2 target damage through Sweeping Strikes.
- Arms Warriors can do excellent AoE damage, however picking up many AoE talents comes at a significant loss to single-target damage, which for raiding is usually not worth it.
- Battle Shout is a highly valuable buff, so you always want to bring at least 1 Warrior to a raid.
- Rallying Cry is a valuable Raid cooldown brought by Arms Warriors.
- With Defensive Stance, Impending Victory and Spell Reflection as low cooldown defensives, Arms Warriors are rarely caught with no defensive options available to cover dangerous situations in raids.
- Heroic Leap and Charge makes it easy to stay mobile and stick to your target as a Warrior.

When to use this Spec
When you primarily need high single-target and 2-target damage. If you need 2 target damage specifically swap Deft Experience for Improved Sweeping Strikes.
Gameplay Altering Talents
Discover all talents that significantly alter your gameplay within the Spec and Class Talent trees. This section gives a concise overview of these talents and their applications but for a more detailed look check out the Rotation and Deep Dive sections below.
Spec Tree
- Executioner's Precision
- Mortal Strike remains an important ability in the Execute phase because of this talent.
- Anger Management
- You gain access to your cooldowns more frequently through this talent.
- Ravager
- With Unhinged this is a lot of burst damage.
- Skullsplitter
- Provides both damage and 15 Rage.
- Juggernaut
- Execute increases Execute's damage by 3% for 12 seconds, stacking up to 15 times.
Class Tree
- Thunderous Roar
- Together with Thunderous Words and Uproar.
- Very high AoE damage.
- Avatar
- This is your main DPS cooldown to line up with important mechanics and adds.
When to use this Spec
- When you want more AoE damage but need to maintain high single-target damage.
- This talent build sacrifices very little single-target damage (~2%).
- Likely candidates among important Raid bosses for this talent build are Broodkeeper Diurna, Raszageth, Scalecommander Sarkareth and Fyrakk.
Talent Adjustments
Listing all the changes within the Class and Spec tree compared to the Single-Target build.
Added
- Cleave -- Replaces Whirlwind.
- Deals high damage and is buffed by Martial Prowess.
- Spreads Mastery: Deep Wounds, which is important for sustained AoE, since Mastery: Deep Wounds would otherwise run out in between cooldowns.
- Dreadnaught
- If you have Sweeping Strikes active you gain 2 seismic waves.
- Intervene
- You need to pick up Intervene or Storm Bolt to reach Thunder Clap.
- Thunder Clap
- Allows you to spread Rend to nearby enemies.
- Seismic Reverberation
- Since it now works with Cleave this talent provides a lot of damage.
Removed
- Deft Experience
- Removed to pick up Cleave.
- Strength of Arms
- Shockwave
- Honed Reflexes
- Bitter Immunity
When to use this Spec
Use these Talents for Trash and for The Primal Council.
Talent Adjustments
Listing all the changes within Class and Spec tree compared to the Single-Target build.
Added
- Warbreaker -- Replaces Colossus Smash.
- Warbreaker works exactly like Colossus Smash except it affects all nearby enemies.
- Cleave -- Replaces Whirlwind.
- Deals high damage and is buffed by Martial Prowess.
- Spreads Mastery: Deep Wounds, which is important for sustained AoE, since Mastery: Deep Wounds would otherwise run out in between cooldowns.
- Collateral Damage
- Try to have 2x Martial Prowess when you consume the Collateral Damage buff.
- Merciless Bonegrinder
- Excellent synergy with Cleave and Collateral Damage.
- Intervene
- You need to pick up Intervene or Storm Bolt in order to reach Thunder Clap.
- Thunder Clap
- Allows you to spread Rend to nearby enemies.
- Seismic Reverberation
- Since it now works with Cleave this talent provides a lot of damage.
- Fervor of Battle
- Works especially well with Collateral Damage since the Slams from Fervor of Battle cleave with Sweeping Strikes.
- Dreadnaught
- If you have Sweeping Strikes active you gain 2 seismic waves.
- 1x Deft Experience
- Picked instead of Critical Thinking since Execute does not get much use when you need AoE damage.
Removed
- Blunt Instruments
- Skullsplitter
- Sudden Death
- Juggernaut
- Executioner's Precision
- Strength of Arms
- Shockwave
- Honed Reflexes
- Bitter Immunity
- 1x Critical Thinking
Rotation
Patch 11.0 - The War Within
Arms Warrior
Tier Set
- 2-Set: Mortal Strike and Cleave damage increased by 15% and chance to critically strike increased by 10%.
- 4-Set: Mortal Strike, Cleave and Execute critical strikes increase your damage and critical strike chance by 8% for 6 seconds through Strike Vulnerabilities.
Single-Target
Opener Rotation
In your opener, you want to apply Rend and then use your cooldowns as shown in the timeline below.
Priority List
- Use Fyr'alath the Dreamrender when you do not have Avatar or Colossus Smash active.
- Apply Rend if it is not already active.
- Use Cooldowns when available in this priority:
- Use Thunderous Roar on cooldown.
- Use Ravager on cooldown.
- Use Avatar on cooldown.
- Use Colossus Smash on cooldown.
- Use Skullsplitter when Mortal Strike is on cooldown.
- Use Mortal Strike on cooldown.
- Use Execute with Sudden Death
- Refresh Rend if it has less than 30% of its time left.
- Use Overpower on cooldown.
- Use Slam.
Execute Priority List
- Use Fyr'alath the Dreamrender when you do not have Avatar or Colossus Smash active.
- Use Cooldowns when available in this priority:
- Use Thunderous Roar on cooldown.
- Use Skullsplitter on cooldown.
- Use Ravager on cooldown.
- Use Avatar on cooldown.
- Use Colossus Smash on cooldown.
- Use Mortal Strike when you have 2x Executioner's Precision.
- Use Overpower when you have less than 60 Rage and you do not already have 2x Martial Prowess.
- Use Execute.
- Use Overpower on cooldown.
2-Target
- As an Arms Warrior the single target priority lists also apply for situations where you face 2 targets, with the caveat that you keep up Sweeping Strikes as much as possible.
- Use it after Ravager in the opener and then on cooldown.
Multi Target
Opener Rotation
In the Arms Warrior AoE Raid opener rotation, just as in the single-target opener, you want to apply Rend (through Thunder Clap) and then use your cooldowns, although for AoE you should throw in an early Cleave before Sweeping Strikes is used, as shown in the timeline below.
3+ Targets Priority List
- Use Fyr'alath the Dreamrender when you do not have Avatar or Colossus Smash active.
- Apply Rend to multiple enemies by using Thunder Clap.
- Use Cooldowns when available in this priority:
- Use Thunderous Roar on cooldown.
- Use Ravager on cooldown.
- Use Avatar on cooldown.
- Use Warbreaker (AoE Talents) on cooldown.
- Use Sweeping Strikes on cooldown.
- Use Colossus Smash on cooldown.
- Use Cleave on cooldown.
- Use Overpower on cooldown.
- Use Skullsplitter on cooldown.
- Use Mortal Strike on cooldown when Sweeping Strikes is active.
- Use Execute when Sweeping Strikes is active.
- Use Thunder Clap on cooldown.
- Use Mortal Strike on cooldown.
- Use Execute.
- Use Slam.
- Against exactly 3 targets, if you have Sweeping Strikes active then prioritize Mortal Strike over Cleave if you play without Fervor of Battle. Only the AoE Talent build is using Fervor of Battle.
Deep Dive
Patch 11.0 - The War Within
Arms Warrior
The Execute Phase and Unhinged
- Mortal Strike by itself is not a high priority in the Execute phase, but it becomes a high priority in order to consume Executioner's Precision.
- With Unhinged you can let the automatic Mortal Strikes consume Executioner's Precision and Martial Prowess.
- The timeline below is an example of how you can use your cooldowns in the Execute phase.
Generating more Rage
If you are new to Arms Warrior you should skip this section since even when rage-starved it is a lot of effort for a minimal gain, and if done poorly it is a big DPS loss.
Becoming rage-starved should be a rare occurrence in normal play, but can happen sometimes if you are holding onto cooldowns, playing an unusual talent build, or if your group does not have Skyfury. Consider these two ideas to be your very last priority, if the choice is between doing this or doing nothing.

Broodkeeper Diurna Tips
Phase 1 if you attack the boss
- If you are assigned to attack Broodkeeper in phase 1 this is a single-target fight for you, and you should go with the Arms Warrior Single-Target Talents.
Phase 1 if you attack the adds
- If you are assigned to attack the adds then you should use the Arms Warrior Multi-Target Raid Talents as shown above.
- Two add waves spawn soon after one another, and after that you have a break.
Phase 2
- Pay attention to the Frozen Shroud cast because if you get rooted outside while kiting a Empowered Greatstaff's Wrath you are likely to die. However as a Warrior, you can Heroic Leap back into melee. This is an overlap that only happens once or twice during the fight, and is also a great time to use a defensive cooldown.
Raszageth the Storm-Eater Tips
- Go with Arms Warrior Multi-Target Raid Talents except drop:
- Second Wind
- Pain and Gain
- Leeching Strikes
- In order to get:
- Intimidating Shout
- Honed Reflexes
- Wrecking Throw
- Charge and Heroic Leap make it especially easy for Warriors to counter Hurricane Wing and Tempest Wing, you don't even need a plan.
Offensive Cooldown Usage
- Use Wrecking Throw when you are attacking an absorb shield in the first intermission with Flame Shield and in Phase 2 during Stormsurge.
- Save Thunderous Roar if needed to AoE the first Storm Break.
Defensive Cooldown Usage
- Use Die by the Sword, Spell Reflection or Defensive Stance when you stack up for Volatile Current.
- Die by the Sword is marked on some of the most dangerous overlaps on the timeline below.
Utility Cooldown Usage
- AoE Crowd Control is excellent for dealing with Volatile Current, therefore we use Intimidating Shout to help clear the sparks.
- The macro shown below automatically targets a spark with your Pummel.
/tar boss1/targetenemy/focus/tar player/tar focus/tar boss1/targetlasttarget/cast [harm,nodead] Pummel/tar boss1
Echo of Neltharion Tips
- Use the Arms Warrior Multi-Target Raid Talents, except drop Cleave and pick up Deft Experience unless you expect to have a long last phase which is unusual this late in the raid tier.
- Use your Heroic Leap to get out of Echoing Fissure just before the cast finishes which enables you to stay on the target during the cast time. Since this cast happens multiple times in Phase 1 you can get significantly more uptime playing this way.
- A targeting macro as shown below is especially useful when afflicted by Corruption. When you get corrupted you become unfriendly to your raid group, and consequently it becomes hard to target the add due to the amount of enemy nameplates being visible.
/tar Voice From Beyond
Offensive Cooldown Usage
- If you have a longer kill time you might be able to fit in a 4th Avatar, however you are then unable to delay your second Avatar for the first Voice From Beyond as illustrated in the timeline below.
Defensive Cooldown Usage
- Cover Echoing Fissure, Umbral Annihilation and Ebon Destruction with a defensive, especially later in the phases.
Scalecommander Sarkareth Tips
- In Phase 3 when Sarkareth casts Cosmic Ascension make sure to finish with an Execute. When Sarkareth comes back use Execute again to keep Juggernaut stacked up.
- To easily target Empty Recollection with several mobs spawning the macro shown below is ideal. After Sarkareths Abyssal Breath cast press the macro to instantly target and focus the Empty Recollection.
/tar Empty Recollection/focus
Offensive Cooldown Usage
Defensive Cooldown Usage
- Spell Reflection works to deflect Scorching Detonation, so plan your Spell Reflection to deflect the most dangerous Scorching Detonations.
- You take a lot of damage in Phase 1, so be ready with Impending Victory and health potion.
Smolderon Tips
Offensive Cooldown Usage
- The first intermission starts too soon so our cooldowns don't line up well, although you can still get some cooldown overlap with Ignited Essence at the end of the first intermission. Therefore it is beneficial to open the fight using Avatar and Thunderous Roar immediately before even applying Rend.
- The best way to play with Fyr'alath the Dreamrender varies depending on the kill time, what is shown in the timeline below is best for long kill times. If you reliably kill the boss before the last intermission using Fyr'alath on the first and third intermissions is better.
Defensive Cooldown Usage
- Use Die by the Sword when soaking Brand of Damnation, and afterwards Impending Victory because of the heal absorb. If you don't have Die by the Sword ready you can go in Defensive Stance instead, especially later in the fight when Smolderon does more damage because of Heating Up.
- Use Spell Reflection with Brand of Damnation or Overheated. These 2 spells come simultaneously, and you always either soak the Brand of Damnation or get the Overheated debuff.
Tindral Sageswift, Seer of the Flame Tips
- Use Arms Warrior Single-Target Raid Talents except drop:
- Pain and Gain
- Shockwave
- Bitter Immunity
- To pick up:
- Intervene
- Thunder Clap
- Wrecking Throw
- You should focus on single-target damage unless your raid is struggling with roots living too long.
- Because of Heroic Leap warriors can easily adjust where we soak Seed of Flame, therefore we can take the most difficult Seeds for ourselves. Look for big clumps, far away or sneaky spawns and then grab them with Heroic Leap.
Offensive Cooldown Usage
- Avatar is used in phase 1 to remove Mass Entanglement when it overlaps with Fire Beam.
Defensive Cooldown Usage
- Use Spell Reflection when Tindral casts Falling Star.
- Go in Defensive Stance when flying between platforms.
Fyrakk the Blazing Tips
- Use Arms Warrior Multi-Target Raid Talents except drop:
- Pain and Gain
- Second Wind
- To pick up:
- Honed Reflexes
- Wrecking Throw
- In Phase 3 you should always save Heroic Leap for Eternal Firestorm. This way if you get the Firestorm yourself it is trivial to place it well. In addition, even if you did not targeted by Firestorm, you can help be a backup for the assigned Seed of Amirdrassil holders.
Offensive Cooldown Usage
- Arms Warrior is amazing at dealing damage to the 2 big adds from Greater Firestorm in Phase 2, therefore you should use your cooldowns on them unless they die too quickly. The timeline provided uses cooldowns on the big adds.
- When Greater Firestorm is cast instantly use Thunderous Roar so that you also hit Fyrakk with it as well as the Colossus. The second time you can use Thunderous Roar on the adds since it is not ready in time for Fyrakk.
Defensive Cooldown Usage
- In the last phase use Die by the Sword when targeted by Eternal Firestorm and go in Defensive Stance.
- Use Spell Reflection or Die by the Sword when you have Blaze in the intermission or in Phase 2.
Stat Priority
Patch 11.0 - The War Within
Arms Warrior
Understand your secondary stat priority and the tertiary stats needed for optimal performance during Raid boss fights as an Arms Warrior. For more detailed information, visit the Stats and Attributes guide.
Higher Item level items are better in most scenarios. For an accurate representation of what item to equip you should use Simcraft! A static "Stat Priority" is just a starting point and can easily shift depending on your individual gear.
- All secondary stats are affected by diminishing returns. Click here to learn more!
Tertiary
- Avoidance - Great stat to reduce the damage intake of "Area of Effect" abilities.
- Leech - Provides additional healing through damage dealing. The damage of your pets does not heal you thus Leech is a great tertiary for you since most of your damage is coming from your own spells.
- Speed - Niche tertiary that can be very useful and has been proven useful in the past. Makes playing certain mechanics a lot easier.

Active Trinket alternatives
- Algeth'ar Puzzle Box
- The best farmable trinket alternative, and also one of the best for burst damage.
- Elementium Pocket Anvil
- BiS if your raid group is missing several of the secondary buffs from Ominous Chromatic Essence.
- Simply use on cooldown, you can even macro it into rotational spells and have it done automatically like on the macro shown below.

Passive Trinket alternatives
- Cataclysmic Signet Brand
- Your best trinket in many raiding situations, but is weaker on short fights.
- Ominous Chromatic Essence
- Is better or worse depending on how many people in your Raid are using it, if you get all the secondary buffs from your teammates this is BiS.
- Whispering Incarnate Icon
- Is better or worse depending on how many people in your Raid are using it.

Embellishments
Patch 11.0 - The War Within
Arms Warrior
- 2x Blue Silken Lining
- This is the best option if you have at least 30% uptime, which you should have almost all the time.
- The optimal slots to craft on are Wrist and Neck. Feet and Waist are also good options, or Cloak if you don't have Voice of the Silent Star.
Honorable mention
- Allied Wristguard of Companionship
- If you have low uptime of Blue Silken Lining.
- Shadowflame-Tempered Armor Patch
- If you don't get enough Blue Silken Lining uptime, although it is primarily a single target embellishment.
Remaining Sparks
- Make sure to apply Alchemical Flavor Pocket if you have an additional crafted item equipped.
- Crafted items are 525 item level and regular items are 528 on max item level therefor it's not beneficial to equip crafted items outside of your 2x embellishments unless you don't have access to other high item level gear on that slot.

Races
Patch 11.0 - The War Within
Arms Warrior
For min-maxing an Arms Warrior in raiding, different racial traits can provide a tremendous benefit to your characters. If this is not your top goal, picking a race that fits your style works just as well.
- Escape Artist -- Gnome
- Root and Snare dispel.
- Shadowmeld -- Night Elf
- Drop combat in order to avoid spells being targeted at you.
- Stoneform -- Dwarf
- Removes all Poison, Disease, Curse, Magic, and Bleed simultaneously.
- Arcane Torrent -- Blood Elf
- Dispels 1 beneficial effect from all nearby enemies at the same time.
- Spatial Rift -- Void Elf
- Activate to spawn a shadow traveling in the direction you are facing. Activate again to teleport to it.
- Maximum range of 100 yards.
Recommendation
In general, it's safe to say that if you care about min-maxing your DPS you should go with the highest DPS racial. That being said the story is a bit different if it's about progression raiding. Some help out massively to speed up the progression of certain bosses. Notably Dwarf with their Stoneform helped out on Tindral Sageswift & Fyrakk the Blazing in the latest Race to World First by having easy access to dispelling yourself at crucial points of the fights mentioned.
